Lady Aurelia Ravenshade

Ah you want to hear a little about me? Oh no, I couldn’t… well… if you insist I suppose I could share a bit about myself. Absolutely pleased to make your acquaintance. My name is Aurelia Portyr Ravenshade… yes, eldest daughter of the Ravenshade family.

There’s often some confusion regarding my younger sister, Lidia, being the one set to inherit our family’s affairs. Isn’t that usually the eldest’s burden? Certainly. Do I mind? Not at all. I’m quite glad Father didn’t choose me. And I certainly didn’t spend my entire childhood pining after his approval. And so I’ve gone in a different direction… to grow and better myself far beyond what the Ravenshade empire could offer me.

I graduated with the highest honors from the High Hall Academy with concentrations in history, languages, and political theory. A terribly impractical education, according to my father. Though it did make it rather easy to win every strategic exercise they put in front of me. Siege simulations, treaty negotiations, supply-chain logistics… the professors began using my solutions as examples for the younger classes.

Outside my studies, I fenced. Recreationally, of course. I only happened to place first three years running. After that, they paired me with the instructors instead. I’ve since done well in most dueling tournaments around Baldur’s Gate. Swords, bows, horseback… I continue to hone my skills each day.

My Father began to take note of my exceptional combat skills. During my final summer at the academy, a trade caravan under our family’s banner was being harassed by bandits along the Coast Way. I was… volunteered to accompany the guards. We returned with the goods, the bandits scattered, and only one broken nose… mine, unfortunately. Lidia said it wasn’t very ladylike. I didn’t mind it.

And so, people started to take notice. Common folk, stablehands, messengers, the old gate sergeant… they started coming to me when something needed solving. Missing ledgers, smuggling along the river docks, a bit of code-breaking in intercepted correspondence. Nothing glamorous. Just housekeeping. Still, it’s nice to be useful. And I knew I could do something good for my city.

I suppose I developed a reputation for… competence. Quick on my feet. Quick with a blade. Quicker with a plan. Father calls it ‘restlessness.’ My tutors called it ‘promise.’ Personally, I simply dislike losing.

In my spare time, I lose myself in music or painting. It’s funny, father always said the arts were decorative pursuits. Yet I’ve found they require the same things as swordplay. Precision. Timing. Control of breath. And knowing exactly where to place the point.

There’s a very large world beyond Baldur’s Gate, after all. Full of danger, poor decisions, and people in need of someone competent enough to clean up after them. If I am not to be the heir to anything… then I suppose I’m free to become whatever I like. And if the road ahead happens to be treacherous… bandits, devils, or worse…hell… well, I’ve always done my best work under pressure.

  Sorry, am I rambling???
